Teaching Assistant
We are looking for a dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistant to join our dynamic team in a Primary School in Eltham, Greenwich as soon as possible. This full-time role offers the opportunity to support children in Key Stage 2 (KS2) in the mornings and work 1:1 with a non-verbal child with autism in Year 1 in the afternoons.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide general classroom support for KS2 students, assisting teachers with day-to-day learning activities, group work, and helping students with their academic progress.
Support students in a variety of subjects, ensuring they have the tools and guidance needed to succeed.
Work 1:1 in the afternoons with a Year 1 child with autism, providing tailored support to help the child engage in their learning and activities.
Assist with communication and social interaction strategies for the child, adapting approaches to support their needs.
Help the child feel comfortable and confident in their learning environment, ensuring they are safe and supported throughout the school day.
Collaborate with the class teacher, SENCO, and other staff to implement individual learning strategies and ensure the child’s well-being.
Observe and monitor the child’s progress and assist in adapting their learning materials to suit their needs.Ideal Candidate:
Previous experience in working with primary school-aged children, ideally in a teaching assistant role.
Experience working with children with autism, particularly non-verbal children, is highly desirable.
A calm, patient, and empathetic approach, with the ability to build a positive relationship with children.
Strong communication skills and the ability to adapt to individual needs.
A proactive, flexible approach to supporting children’s learning both in groups and individually.
Relevant qualifications, such as a Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent), are preferred.
