About the role
Our award winning Communications team promotes Shelter Scotland’s brand and leads our public campaigning and digital communications to achieve change for those that do not have a safe, secure or affordable home in Scotland. Your challenge will be to head up that team and take responsibility for the communications we produce, in order to raise the profile of both the cause and the charity. As well as developing and delivering communications strategies that will drive our objectives forward, we’ll rely on you to provide strategic direction for all communications connected to our work. And, when it comes to identifying opportunities to position us as a thought leader or highlight our strategic messages, driving our media work or working with those with lived experience to help them tell their story, again, we’ll count on you.
With a relevant degree or equivalent experience in communications, you’re creative, innovative and commercially aware and have an excellent understanding of digital media and traditional channels, plus a passion for using them. You’re an excellent copywriter and editor too – a natural at capturing and refining key messages. The ability to relate to, and communicate effectively with, diverse stakeholders and audiences is also important, while knowledge of the communications and political context of Scotland would also be useful. Someone who responds positively to change, you’re not afraid to challenge the status quo and introduce new ideas when appropriate. What’s more, you lead by example, have an adaptable approach and are committed to achieving results for our cause.
