Teaching Assistant in Specialist Academy
Bristol based
Full-time
January start
£12.90 per hour
Teaching Personnel is working closely with a specialist academy in Bristol. This academy caters for the most vulnerable children in the area. Catering for students across Key Stage 3&4, this purpose build academy takes on pupils who struggle in mainstream schools and have Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs (SEMH).
As this is NOT a traditional school, there is a different approach to learning: learning focuses on the real world. So maths for instance is related to money management, Science could be to do with gardening or pet care and Geography could focus on the local environment and map reading skills.
This academy is part of a larger trust so there will be lots of opportunities to progress and opportunities for Continuous Professional Development (CPD). This is on going training to progress your career in Education
You will be supporting students on a daily basis from 8:30 to 3:30, Monday to Friday. You will need to be patient, resilient, confident and above all, committed. These pupils struggle to build trusting relationships so continuity is key. You will have an opportunity to meet the students and staff before you commit so don’t worry.
YOU DO NOT NEED ANY EDUCATION SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS other than a C grade or above for maths and English GCSE. Experience with challenging behaviour is desired but not required. We are looking for someone with the right attitude who wants to make a difference and can manage challenging behaviour on a daily basis.
If you feel you have the right attitude but want more skills with behaviour management, we offer a two day TEAM TEACH course which is a de-escalation and positive handling course. You will also be safeguarding trained as a matter of course.
