They pride themselves on offering tailored support to help every child achieve their full potential. They are currently looking for a passionate and proactive SEN Learning Support Assistant to join their team and make a real difference in the lives of children who need additional support.
Role Overview
As an SEN Learning Support Assistant, you will work closely with teachers, the SENCO, and other support staff to provide tailored assistance to students with SEN. You will help create a nurturing and effective learning environment, supporting children to overcome barriers to learning and promoting their personal and academic growth.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide 1:1 and group support to students with SEN, such as autism spectrum disorder (ASD), ADHD, dyslexia, speech and language difficulties, or emotional and behavioural challenges.
* Assist the class teacher in delivering tailored learning plans and adapting classroom activities to meet the needs of SEN students.
* Support students in building social skills, emotional regulation, and independence within and outside of the classroom.
* Monitor the progress of students with SEN and report back to the SENCO and teachers on their development.
* Help in the implementation and review of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) or Education, Health, and Care Plans (EHCPs).
* Provide personal care and support to students where needed, ensuring their well-being and comfort during the school day.
* Work collaboratively with other professionals (e.g., speech therapists, educational psychologists) to ensure a holistic approach to supporting each child.
* Assist with classroom management and support the creation of an inclusive, positive learning environment for all students.
Requirements
* Strong understanding of the needs and challenges faced by children with SEN.
* Patience, empathy, and a positive attitude towards supporting children with additional needs.
* Excellent communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.
* Flexibility and adaptability to meet the changing needs of the classroom and individual students.
Desirable Skills
* Experience working with children, ideally in a school setting or within an SEN support role.
* A relevant qualification in education, SEN, or child development (e.g., Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant, CACHE, or equivalent).
* Experience using SEN support techniques such as PECS, Makaton, or sensory play.
* Knowledge of behaviour management strategies for students with emotional and behavioural difficulties.
* Experience working with children with speech and language difficulties or those with physical disabilities.
