Job Title: SEN Teaching Assistant

Location: Surbiton, Greater London

Job type – Full time, Monday to Friday. 8.30am-3.30pm

Are you an SEN experienced Teaching Assistant with a passion for supporting students with complex special educational needs? We are recruiting for a SEN School in Surbiton who provide a safe, caring, and inclusive environment for students with severe and complex learning difficulties. We’re looking for a compassionate and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to make a meaningful difference in the lives of students with SEN.

As a SEN Teaching Assistant, you’ll work directly with students, providing individualised support to meet their specific needs. You’ll collaborate with teachers and support staff to create a positive and engaging learning experience. Key duties include assisting students with daily learning tasks, offering personal care as needed, and fostering both academic and social growth.

This is a full-time, long term role with a view to going on a permanent contract with the School. The daily rate of pay will be between £90-£100 depending on skills and experience.

Key Responsibilities:

Deliver one-on-one and small group support, adapting activities to meet students’ individual needs
Assist teachers with classroom organization and preparing resources for lessons
Create a supportive and inclusive environment that encourages active student engagement
Support students with personal care tasks such as feeding, mobility, and hygiene when needed
Utilise specialized communication methods to support students with speech and language challenges
Encourage the development of social skills, independence, and confidence
Monitor student progress and work closely with teachers to adjust support strategies as needed
Requirements:

Experience working with children or young people with SEN, particularly those with severe and complex needs (experience in an SEN school is beneficial)
A patient, compassionate approach and dedication to supporting student well-being
Strong communication skills and the ability to form positive relationships with students, staff, and families
Flexible, collaborative, and team-oriented
Relevant qualifications in SEN or child development are desirable but not required
