Support Worker – Walsall
Salary: £12 per hour
Contract Options: 36-hour or 48-hour contracts
Shift Pattern: 8:00 AM – 8:00 PM

Our client is seeking a dedicated and experienced Support Worker to join their team in Walsall, supporting a young person with complex needs. This role requires individuals who can deliver care with empathy, resilience, and a trauma-informed approach to create a safe, structured, and nurturing environment.

About the Role
You will support a young person presenting with significant emotional and behavioural challenges, including:

* Dysregulation triggered by interpersonal conflicts, rejection, or self-esteem struggles.

* Self-harming behaviours, suicidal ideation, and impulsive actions requiring vigilant emotional support, clear boundaries, and de-escalation strategies.

* Risk-taking behaviours such as medication overdoses, absconding, and threats of self-harm.

Your role will focus on:

* Implementing structured routines to provide stability.

* Building positive relationships based on trust and consistency.

* Collaborating with mental health professionals to deliver therapeutic interventions, such as Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT).

* Managing safety risks, including monitoring physical health and creating a secure living environment.

* Supporting social development, independence, and self-esteem through tailored activities and engagement.

Key Responsibilities

* Deliver person-centred care that aligns with a trauma-informed framework.

* Manage challenging behaviours using proactive strategies and de-escalation techniques.

* Monitor the young person’s mental and physical well-being, ensuring safety and adherence to risk management plans.

* Foster a therapeutic environment, working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, including CAMHS and psychologists.

* Provide structure, routine, and clear communication to promote security and stability.

Requirements:

* Prior experience in supporting young people with complex needs or trauma-informed care.

* A compassionate, patient, and resilient approach to caregiving.

* Strong skills in crisis management, emotional regulation, and behaviour de-escalation.

* Ability to work effectively in a team and independently.

* Commitment to maintaining a safe and supportive environment.
