Maintenance Assistant

Salary:

£25,554.66 – £27,288.58 per annum

Contract:

Permanent, 32.5 hours per week (year-round), Monday to Friday

Locations:

LS10 (24.5 hours/week) AND

LS25 (8 hours/week)

We are currently looking for a Maintenance Assistant to work across two Schools in Hunslet and Micklefield.

The role involves opening/closing the school and managing all the maintenance across the sites, including plumbing, joinery and electrical work. The role would suit someone from a handyperson background. The main aim of this role is to manage all facilities and safety aspects of the schools to provide a positive working environment for the students and staff.

Duties of the role include:

Ensuring security integrity of the school buildings and grounds through locking and unlocking, patrols, monitoring third party contractors.
Carrying out the repairs or reporting the damage to the helpdesk
Carry out either physical or visual checks of water systems, Fire Alarms, Fire Doors, Fire Extinguishers, Plant Rooms.
Respond to emergency situations such as floods, bodily fluids and effecting temporary or permanent rectification in accordance with prescribed procedures and timescales
Respond to requests for collection of parcels, movement of furniture rearrangement of rooms etc in accordance with prescribed procedures and timescales
Be observant for H&S issues and ensure that they are rectified or made safe and reported to management
Being proactive by noticing deficiencies in the facilities and either rectifying if within capabilities or bringing the defect to the attention of management
Responsible for the grounds of the building too so the role will involve some gardening/grass cutting and litter picking as needed.

The ideal candidate:

The ideal candidate will have experience within the maintenance sector and ideally be qualified in a technical discipline such as Plumbing, Joinery or Electrical or have a good command of hands-on technical experience.

You must be able to pass an Enhanced DBS check in an education environment.

Strong handyperson skills – plumbing, electrical and joinery (qualifications desirable but not essential)
Amenable and approachable personality
Flexible and adaptable in approach
Able to travel between the two schools
