The opportunity

Barnsley College boasts a large estate with excellent facilities for students, visitors, and staff. To enhance our environment and continually improve our services, we are seeking a Technician to join our expanding Estates department.

Our Estates department is responsible for the maintenance of 17 buildings, primarily located in the town centre, along with several campuses further afield. The team consists of approximately 75 members, including cleaning, maintenance, and office support staff.

This role focuses on both Reactive and Planned Preventative Maintenance schedules for college equipment, offering a dynamic work environment with no set job structure – each day brings new challenges. Work hours are flexible, and you will participate in the call-out rota. We provide transport and all necessary tools to facilitate your work.

You will work closely with various College partners and contractors to ensure our facilities operate effectively. You may also assist with inquiries from external stakeholders. There will be aspects of compliance within this role, but these will be directed, and full training will be provided.

About you

We are looking for a hands-on, practical individual who is eager to expand their knowledge in unfamiliar trades. While a general understanding of plumbing, electrical work, or joinery is essential, you will benefit from the support of our skilled maintenance colleagues and the Maintenance Manager.
