The vacancy
Join Peabody as a Part-Time Support Worker – Mental Health, Complex Needs & Learning Disabilities (St Albans)
Here at Peabody, we have an exciting opportunity for a Part-Time Support Worker to join our supported housing schemes in St Albans. This permanent role will be based across two of our services – Milligan House (Mental Health) and Russet Drive (Learning Disabilities), supporting individuals to build their independence and sustain their tenancies.
About Our Services:
Milligan House provides supported accommodation for adults with mental health needs, helping them on their journey to independent living. It is a dry house, requiring customers to be at least six months sober, and works closely with local housing and mental health services to support recovery.
Russet Drive offers supported accommodation for adults with learning disabilities at a low to medium risk level. Customers live independently but may require additional support to develop life skills, access services, and maintain their tenancies.
Both schemes are just 10 minutes apart by car, so you’ll need a UK driver’s licence and access to a vehicle to travel between sites.
What We’re Looking For:
* A caring, non-judgemental, and empathetic approach – someone who genuinely wants to support people to live fulfilling, independent lives.
* Experience in housing-related support – knowledge of housing benefit applications, tenancy sustainment, and the housing register would be beneficial.
* Strong IT skills – confidence in using systems for support plans, risk assessments, and case notes.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team – supporting residents 1:1, facilitating weekly group sessions, and engaging with professionals.
* Proactive problem-solver – able to manage your workload, think on your feet, and work flexibly to meet the needs of our customers.
* Lived experience or professional experience in mental health, learning disabilities, or housing support would be highly valued.
A Bit About the Role:
As a Support Worker, you’ll work 20 hours per week (Monday to Friday, 9 AM – 5 PM, no evenings or weekends) to support our customers with:
* Developing independent living skills – budgeting, cooking, managing a tenancy.
* Emotional and practical support – helping individuals regain confidence and make positive life choices.
* Social inclusion – engaging residents in activities, community involvement, and tenancy participation.
* Building partnerships – working closely with local authorities, health services, and voluntary agencies to achieve the best outcomes.
