Salary: £84 – £110 per day (Depending on experience)

Do you have a passion for supporting children with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs in a primary school setting?
GSL Education are working with caring and inclusive primary schools in Newcastle to appoint dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistants. This role is ideal for individuals who are empathetic, patient and committed to helping children overcome emotional and behavioural challenges.
Role Overview:
As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with individual pupils or small groups to provide tailored support that helps them access learning and build confidence. You will play a key role in creating a calm, nurturing environment that encourages emotional regulation and positive behaviour.
Responsibilities of the SEMH TA (Primary):
Support primary-aged pupils with SEMH needs in and outside the classroom.
Help manage challenging behaviours using positive behaviour strategies.
Provide one-to-one or small group interventions focused on emotional wellbeing and resilience.
Assist the class teacher in adapting lessons and resources.
Foster trust and strong relationships with pupils, parents and staff.
Contribute to personalised education and behaviour support plans.
Promote pupil independence and emotional development.
Job Requirements:
Experience working with children with SEMH, SEND, or behavioural needs (school or non-school settings).
A calm, nurturing, and patient approach to supporting children.
Knowledge of positive behaviour management strategies.
Good communication and teamwork skills.
A strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection.
Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply through GSL Education).
