Teaching Assistant Independent School for Children with Learning Disabilities

Location: Peterborough
Hours: Term Time (MondayFriday, 8:30am4:00pm; Wednesday until 5:00pm)
Salary: £20,000 per annum (paid across the full 52 weeks of the year, including 13 weeks holiday)
Contract: Permanent

Are you passionate about supporting children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)? Were looking for a dedicated Teaching Assistant to join an independent school that specialises in providing high-quality education for children with Learning Disabilities (LD).

About the Role:

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who genuinely wants to make a difference. As a Teaching Assistant, youll work closely with both the teaching staff and pupils, ensuring each child receives the tailored support they need to thrive. The role requires a calm, compassionate, and proactive individual who understands the importance of nurturing an inclusive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supporting teaching staff in delivering lessons and activities tailored to individual learning needs

  • Providing 1:1 and small group support to students with a variety of learning disabilities

  • Helping pupils develop social, emotional, and academic skills

  • Assisting with classroom management and ensuring a safe, engaging learning space

  • Supporting students during break times and transitions

  • Attending staff meetings and contributing to the wider team, including a later finish at 5pm on Wednesdays

What Were Looking For:

  • Experience working with SEND children is essential

  • A Teaching Assistant qualification (Level 2 or 3) is desirable, but not essential for candidates with strong, relevant experience in similar roles

  • A genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work as part of a dedicated team

  • Patience, empathy, and a proactive approach to problem-solving
