As a life skills trainer you will be providing support for people with a wide range of ability including adults on the autism spectrum and learning difficulties with behaviour that may challenge.

You will support the individual through a variety of tasks which will help make a true and real difference in the individual’s own chosen outcomes on a personalised training programme.

The Role:

  • Based at our HQ in Rothley.
  • Main Shifts usually 10am – 4pm Mon-Friday (but some shifts may include 9.00am – 5.00 pm)
  • Full time = 24-32pw
  • Driving licence is an advantage but not essential.
  • Competitive Rates of Pay £12.21, up to £12.31(keyworker).
  • Working with individuals on the autism spectrum and associated learning difficulties and challenging behaviour.
  • Please note: We open all year round and do not close for School Holidays, and applicants may be required to work occasional bank holidays.
  • We close for Christmas week and New Years Day.

Role and Responsibilities

Work with Service Users on a 1:1 basis to provide care and support, including organising and supporting on outings, support with personal finances, promoting independence, and support with planned activities that have been assigned such as cooking, shopping and domestic skills, swimming, disco and other physical and wellbeing activities.

To work within the boundaries of our company ethos at all times, ensuring our service users have meaningful activities and work towards outcomes that provide lifelong learning.

Establish positive relationships with service users ensuring that their individual rights and personal dignity are respected and always upheld.

Reading, understanding, implementation and writing of service user care plans and risk assessments. Bringing any concerns or lack of knowledge in relation to Care Plans to Team Leaders or the Management Team

Maintaining cleanliness and hygiene in all areas of the centre to a high standard: performing daily and weekly checks (including fridge/freezer temperatures, food probe checks etc.)

Working as part of a staff team to support service users and to maintain the high standards of care we provide. Contributing to the team with ideas and suggestions; offering support to colleagues including discussing issues about things they could do differently and being open to this input from your colleagues

To work in accordance with Freedom Active values and ethics; to work within the guidance in Freedom Active policies and procedures

To participate fully in regular supervision with Team Leaders/Centre Manager

Take responsibility for their allocated set of keys whilst on duty and ensure that they are always present and on your person.

Maintain a high level of communication with members of the team and Management; writing and reading daily notes and communication book at the beginning of a shift; participate in handover at the end of shifts to ensure people coming onto shift are fully briefed on the events of the day.

To handle and be responsible for petty cash (if this is allocated to you during your shift) and service users cash to ensure that an accurate record is maintained including receipts.

To be responsible for medication administration for all service users (if this is allocated to you during your shift). Ensuring that medication is administered in accordance with the MAR sheets; maintaining an accurate record of all administration administered

To complete daily notes, type up the notes onto a computer into a daily report, ABC charts and Incident forms accurately as per the requirements of Freedom Active.

To maintain the confidentiality of service users including the storage of paperwork in accordance with the Data Protection Act and to ensure disclosure of confidential information to authorised people

To maintain a safe and healthy environment and to report any hazards to Management

To report any malpractice, accidents, incidents or untoward occurrences to the Manager

To carry out any other duties that may be required of you by Management including Team Leaders.

To undertake mandatory training and engage in core training. To attend all training dates as requested by Management.

To have a flexible working approach, and to help cover shifts of those who may be off with short-term sickness or with long-term illness where necessary to ensure that the company remains operational.
