Marketing and Reputation Committee

The Board’s members have broad experience of marketing and communications at both strategic and practical levels but wish to supplement these skills on the Marketing and Reputation Committee. 

 

We are seeking experienced communications, marketing and brand development professionals who can support us with:

 

  • Strategic guidance: Supporting the development of our communications strategy to deliver our ambitious goals for growth 

 

  • Money in: Big Issue Invest has developed strong relationships with a wide group of foundations, impact-focused corporates, wealth fund managers, institutions and individual investors/HNWs – but we want to expand this further, to be the go-to impact fund where investors from all sectors, but particularly the commercial sector, can channel their impact goals into our mission to back human potential and build a world that works for everyone. We are keen to meet top level communications professionals who are excited by this ambition and can help us deliver it. 

 

We are particularly interested in people with communications and strategic marketing experience in the finance and investment industry, who can help us shape campaigns and build new relationships with potential partners in corporate investment, wealth management and institutional investment.

 

  • Money out: Communications has an important role to play in deal flow and ensuring we are reaching the widest possible range of social enterprises and charities. We seek people with an intimate knowledge of marketing and communications across the civil society arena to help us ensure we are connecting our money to the needs of our social sector investees most effectively.

 

  • Reputation & thought leadership: The Big Issue has developed what some describe as an ‘iconic brand’ that commands strong loyalty among our supporters, partners and collaborators. As Big Issue Invest, we want to build on this and grow our own voice as a leader and changemaker in impact investing. 

 

We are looking for:

 

  • A senior PR communications professional / marketing director with strategic communications experience, particularly in the corporate and institutional fundraising and investment arena 

 

  • Strong contacts in finance and investment media

 

  • A track record of building brand and reputation 

 

 Desirable characteristics for all committee members

 

  • BII’s Board is relatively diverse, but the senior leadership team is predominately male and we wish to rebalance that.  
  • While we are open to all applications, we particularly encourage applications from women, people from of Black, Asian and other Minority Ethnic (BAME) backgrounds, people who are disabled or experience long term health conditions, LGBTQIA+ people or those who have direct experience of the social issues Big Issue Invest tackles. 

 

Remuneration and time commitment

 

  • Committee members will be able to recover reasonable costs incurred in the delivery of services to the Big Issue Invest Impact Committee. 
  • The minimum time commitment is expected to be 0.5 days per quarter of meetings plus 0.5 days of time to review documentation and activities relating to the impact committee work (4-6 meetings a year).
