Were looking for a skilled and dedicated Gardener to help maintain the breathtaking 120-acre grounds of a beautiful private estate near Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire. Working under the guidance of the Head Gardener, the Gardener will play a key role in the care and upkeep of vibrant flower beds, serene woodlands, picturesque lakes, and beautifully landscaped areas including an advanced irrigation system.
This is a hands-on position suited to someone with a keen eye for detail, a strong work ethic, and a genuine love for the outdoors.
Job duties
Responsibilities of the Gardener near Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire include:
General Gardening Duties:
- Perform regular garden maintenance, including planting, pruning, weeding, mowing, edging, and mulching
- Assist in the seasonal planting and care of flower beds, borders, pots, and containers, ensuring that the estate is well-presented year-round
- Carry out lawn care tasks, including mowing, aeration, and fertilization, to maintain healthy and attractive lawns
Woodland and Lake Maintenance:
- Support the care and maintenance of the estates woodlands, including tasks such as undergrowth clearing, path maintenance, and basic tree care
- Assist with the upkeep of the lakes, ensuring cleanliness and helping to monitor water quality and aquatic plants
Irrigation and Watering:
- Operate and maintain the irrigation system under the Head Gardeners guidance, ensuring that plants receive adequate watering
- Manually water specific areas as needed, particularly during dry periods or when caring for newly planted specimens
Machinery and Equipment Use:
- Safely operate and maintain gardening equipment, including mowers, trimmers, leaf blowers, and hand tools
- Perform basic checks on machinery and report any repair needs to the Head Gardener
General Grounds Maintenance:
- Keep paths, walkways, and other garden areas clear of debris, leaves, and litter
- Regularly inspect and maintain garden structures, such as benches, fences, and trellises, and report any repair needs
- Assist with waste disposal and composting, ensuring environmentally friendly practices are followed
Support for Estate Events:
- Prepare specific areas of the grounds as required for events, including tidying, planting, and enhancing spaces for guest enjoyment
- Assist in restoring the grounds to standard after events, including additional cleanup and rearrangement as necessary
Team Collaboration:
- Work collaboratively with the Head Gardener and other team members, supporting each other to ensure that the estate is kept in excellent condition
- Follow guidance from the Head Gardener on priorities and tasks, completing work to a high standard
- Communicate effectively, reporting any issues or observations to the Head Gardener
Candidates must be/have:
- Previous experience in gardening or landscaping, preferably in a large estate or formal garden setting
- Basic knowledge of plants, flowers, and general horticultural practices
- Familiarity with gardening machinery and equipment, with the ability to operate them safely
- A strong work ethic, reliability, and a positive attitude toward outdoor work in various weather conditions
- Attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high standards of care
- Physical fitness and the ability to perform manual labour
- Able to work independently and as part of a team
Qualifications
- Formal horticultural training or qualification desirable but not essential
- Valid drivers licence desirable
- Willingness to learn and receive on-the-job training as directed by the Head Gardener

Salary
£27,000.
