Location: Leeds, West Yorkshire
Contract: Permanent and full-time (term-time only). Flexible contracts may be available for the right candidate.
Salary: £21,800 – £24,000
Start date: September 2025

Our partner secondary schools in Leeds are seeking History Teaching Assistants to join them in the new academic year. This is an excellent opportunity for driven graduates considering a future in teaching, educational psychology, or youth work. The ability to support Geography is desirable.

History Teaching Assistant – the schools:

History Teaching Assistant – the role:

As a History Teaching Assistant, you’ll provide academic and emotional support to students who may be struggling to engage with their learning. Working under the guidance of teaching staff, you’ll support pupils in 1:1 or small group sessions, helping them build confidence and overcome barriers to success.

There is structured onboarding and ongoing support from both the school and Aspire People. We offer access to training, CPD, and future teacher training pathways.

History Teaching Assistant – responsibilities:

* Support students with learning, engagement, and behaviour
* Deliver tailored intervention sessions in Humanities subjects (History primarily; Geography if possible)
* Assist in planning activities and tracking student progress
* Mentor students with additional learning needs or from disadvantaged backgrounds
* Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral teams

History Teaching Assistant – requirements:

* A recent graduate (2:1 or above) in History or a related subject from a top UK university
* Strong interpersonal skills and a genuine passion for education
* Resilient, empathetic, and adaptable
* Prior experience with young people (e.g., tutoring, coaching, volunteering) is desirable
* Committed to a long-term role in education
