Salary: £21,000 – £23,000 (FTE), pro rata for term-time only
Full or Part Time, Term-Time Only (exact hours negotiable)

We are proud to be working on behalf of a welcoming and inclusive secondary school in Crawley to recruit a committed and organised Library Assistant to support the smooth day-to-day running of the school library.

This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about books, literacy, and working with young people in an educational setting. The successful candidate will help create a calm, inspiring, and well-managed space where students can read, research, and study.

About the Role:

The Library Assistant will work closely with the school’s Literacy Lead and wider staff to ensure that the library is a vibrant hub for learning and literacy. You will support students during break and lesson times, help manage library resources, and assist in promoting reading for pleasure across the school.

Key Responsibilities:

* Support the daily running of the library and supervise students using the space

* Catalogue, issue, return, and shelve books and learning resources

* Maintain an orderly and welcoming environment conducive to reading and study

* Assist with library displays, promotions, and reading initiatives

* Support literacy-focused events such as World Book Day and author visits

* Provide basic IT and research support to students using the library’s systems

* Liaise with staff to support curriculum-related reading and resources

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

* Experience working with young people or in a school/educational setting

* A genuine interest in reading, literacy, and supporting student learning

* Good organisational and administrative skills

* Strong communication and interpersonal abilities

* A positive and flexible attitude with the ability to work independently

* Previous library experience (desirable but not essential)
