About the Role:
As a Mental Health Teaching Assistant, you’ll provide crucial support to students facing mental health challenges, helping them navigate their educational journey. You’ll work closely with teachers and families to foster a supportive environment that addresses each student’s emotional and psychological needs.
Responsibilities:
Provide empathetic and nurturing support to students with SEMH needs, helping them to manage their emotions and develop coping strategies.
Assist in implementing behaviour management strategies, working collaboratively with teachers and SENCO to create and maintain a positive learning environment.
Offer tailored support to students both in and out of the classroom, ensuring they can access the curriculum and participate fully in school life.
Build trusting relationships with students, promoting their self-esteem and encouraging positive social interactions.
Work closely with educational psychologists, social workers, and external agencies to ensure holistic support for students with SEMH needs.
Track and report on student progress, contributing to reviews and assessments to support their educational and personal development.
Qualifications:
Experience working with students with SEMH needs in an educational or similar setting.
Understanding of SEMH issues and effective strategies for supporting students.
Patience, resilience, and a calm demeanour to manage challenging situations sensitively.
Excellent communication skills to liaise with students, parents/guardians, and colleagues effectively.
Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team, contributing positively to the school community.
