£24,970 to £29,377 Per Annum, Full Time Equivalent
Location: Chelmsford
Working Style: Fixed-base worker

Please note that this position is being offered on a part time basis, offering 18.5 hours per week on an annualised hours contract. The exact pattern of working days and hours can be flexible and will be discussed in the interview, but this will cover 4 – 5 sessions per week and include classroom based (Chelmsford, and potentially Maldon and / or Witham) and online delivery.
Ideally, we are looking for the successful candidate to start work in February 2025 but for the right candidate this could be earlier or later in the year.
The Role
Adult Community Learning are looking for an experienced Functional Skills English tutor to deliver accredited courses face to face and online. We are looking for someone who works well in a teaching team who can teach English and possibly has experience of teaching ESOL. We use a range of delivery models including classroom-based, online and hybrid.

Accountabilities:
- Motivate and inspire learners to promote achievement and develop their skills to enable progression
- Plan and deliver effective learning programmes for diverse groups or individuals in a safe and inclusive environment, following ACL safeguarding procedures
- Address the needs of learners and work creatively to overcome individual barriers to learning
- Enable learners to share responsibility for their own learning and assessment, setting goals that stretch and challenge
- Apply appropriate and fair methods of assessment and provide constructive and timely feedback to support progression and achievement
- Maintain and update your teaching / training expertise, vocational competence, and digital skills
- Contribute to organisational development and quality improvement through collaboration with others
- To initially assess learners’ starting points and monitor their progress, set challenging tasks and objectives, and build on and extend learning for all learners.
- To support learners to develop personal, social and employability skills for them to progress into further learning or jobs that meet local and national needs.
The Experience You Will Bring:
Essential:
- Nationally recognised teaching qualification or teaching / training experience and subject specialism equivalent.
- Experience of delivering accredited Functional Skills courses and developing schemes of work.
- Ability to inspire, motivate and raise aspirations of learners through your enthusiasm and knowledge.
- Competent user of ICT and delivery of online courses.
Desirable:
- Experience of other Essential Skills areas of the curriculum including ESOL, maths and digital skills.
- Good understanding of social and cultural diversity, equality of opportunity and inclusion and safeguarding.
- Minimum of Level 2 in English and maths
Please note that the job role requires you to be mobile throughout an operational area. Therefore, the post holder will need to have a driving licence and access to a vehicle, or the ability to meet the mobility requirements of the role through other means.
