Alternative Provision Teaching Assistant – Bedford – January 2025 – July 2025
Do you have a passion for supporting children who struggle to engage in mainstream education? Do you have a natural ability to build rapport with children who struggle to manage their emotions?
This alternative provision caters for children who are at risk of or who have been permanently excluded from mainstream schools. With class sizes of around 6, you will be working as part of a large staff team who focus on providing an individualised learning experience for all of their students. The school focus on core subjects in the morning but in the afternoon, they follow a creative curriculum which caters to the needs of their students. Subjects include DJing, life skills, swimming and horse riding.
Our partner school in Bedford are looking for a charismatic and energetic individual who is capable of breaking down barriers with ease. You will work closely with a range of children with SEMH and be tasked with building strong rapport to ensure they make strong progress socially and academically.
Key Responsibilities
Work closely with the classroom teacher to create a safe learning environment
Have the ability to stay calm under pressure and diffuse potentially difficult situations.
Manage behaviour that challenges through a range of different techniques
About you
Passionate about working with children with SEMH
Previous experience, either personally or professionally, with children with SEND
Able to commute to Bedford
Passionate about improving outcomes for children from disadvantaged backgrounds
Reliable and flexible
Available full-time – 8:30-3:30 minimum
