Pupil Support Mentor – Portsmouth

“Some days are diamonds, some days are rocks” – But with the right person by their side, a tough day can turn into a turning point. As a Pupil Support Mentor, you’ll be that steady presence for pupils who’ve hit rough patches—whether they’re navigating anxiety, trauma, exclusion or SEMH needs. You’ll offer encouragement when it’s needed most, help them self-regulate and re-engage, and walk alongside them as they rebuild their confidence, resilience, and hope for the future.

Contract: Full time – September 2025 start

Salary: £80 – £110 per day

Key Responsibilities:

Supporting students with social, emotional, behavioural or mental health needs
Offering 1:1 sessions that help pupils feel heard, valued and understood
Helping young people self-regulate, reflect, and rebuild confidence
Encouraging better engagement in lessons and fostering a sense of belonging
Working closely with pastoral teams, teachers and families to keep kids connected and supported
Qualifications & Skills:

Experience supporting young people, especially those with SEND or SEMH needs
A calm, kind and consistent approach to behaviour support
Strong understanding of child development and emotional regulation
Fantastic communication skills and a natural ability to build trust
Confidence working as part of a team, and the initiative to lead when needed
The resilience to weather the tough days—and the heart to keep showing up anyway
