Retail Buyer – Saint Eval

Retail Gift Buyer
Location: Head Office, St Eval, Wadebridge, Cornwall
Hours: 24
Pay: 25,200 pa

We are looking for an experienced Retail Gift Buyer to join our team with a positive attitude, a proactive approach, and the ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels.

You’ll be working with the Head of Retail and will provide support in all elements of the strategy development, previous sales history, product specifying, sourcing processes, business partnering with product and operations leaders to identify and deliver greatest turnover and commercial value in the category.

What will your role involve?

  • Develop, implement, and support the direction of the category sourcing strategy for the gifting categories, managing all aspects of the commercial, operational, quality and risk management requirements.
  • Responsible for the full end to end sourcing and supply process from supporting business partners to develop a definition of needs, product specifications through to confirmation of delivery and supplier payment.
  • Manage, on behalf of the business, effective supplier relationships, balancing security of supply, cost effectiveness, commitment, RSG reputation and access to market innovation.
  • Lead and execute tendering, negotiating, contracting and contract management activities on significant spend areas within the category.
  • Liaise with the Style Consultant to provide a scoping brief for all new labelling, packaging, and product designs to ensure that all items are in line with the company style vision. Artwork will be created in accordance with the company vision by the Style Consultant.
  • Identify and lead opportunities within the category to drive performance in supply, cost, quality, innovation, and minimise risk.
  • Coordinate and review regular analysis of supplier spend and sales volume data, reducing overall supply chain costs or leveraging spends where scale allows, moving down the supply chain toward original product source.
  • Work with the commercial analyst to ensure the relevant data in purchasing systems (as specified for that area of the business) is updated and maintained in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Attend regular meetings with the Style Consultant, purchasing and supply chain manager, operations manager (hotels), marketing manager and Head of Retail to review the rolling plan.

Key Accountabilities

  • Sales: Support the achievement of budgeted sales for all outlets selling Gifts.
  • Profit / GP%: Support the Head of Retail to achieve budgeted cash profit and GP% for all Gift ranges.
  • Pricing: Set pricing strategy for own brand products. Liaise with The Head of Retail for decision making on all retail pricing.
  • Stock: Work along with the Head of Retail to agree stock levels and Purchasing levels to an agreed budget. Final decision making on stock purchase quantities sits with the Head of Retail.
  • Own brand development: gift and food gift: Grow participation of own brand products – both gift and food gift products.
  • Manufacturer selection: Decide which manufacturers and suppliers we work with. Final decision making on supplier selection sits with Retail and Supply Chain Managers.
  • Ranging decisions: Assist the Head of Retail to drive sales on the ecommerce site.
  • Branded range selection: Plan purchasing for supplier branded ranges. Plan all purchase quantities.
  • Operational liaison: Assist the Head of Retail to ensure operational teams meet sales targets.
  • Buying admin: Interface with logistics, accounts, and operations to ensure gift ranges are set up on the systems.

Our story

Rick and Jill stein started our family run business back in 1975, and today we employ over 600 happy staff. The business has grown from the first flagship seafood restaurant in Padstow to 10 restaurants across the south of England, plus hotel rooms, cookery school, shops and an online shop. Rick and Jill are still heavily involved in the business, as are their three sons Ed, Jack and Charlie.
