Job Title: SEMH Teaching Assistant

Location: Salford

Pay Rates: £83 – £91 a day

Shift Patterns: Monday to Friday

Reeson Education is currently working closely with a supportive SEMH school in Salford to recruit an experienced and enthusiastic SEMH Teaching Assistant. This full-time, long-term position is available for an immediate start.

In this role as an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will work with children who have complex SEMH needs. The students can display challenging behaviours, so we’re looking for someone with resilience, a calm approach, and previous experience in managing behavioural needs. The school follows a child-centered approach, striving to achieve the best possible educational outcomes for each student. They take great pride in offering an individualised curriculum tailored to meet the unique needs of their pupils.

SEMH Teaching Assistant responsibilities:

Promote, support and facilitate inclusion by encouraging participation of all pupils in learning and extracurricular activities
Support the teaching of a broad and balanced curriculum aimed at pupils achieving their full potential in all areas of learning
Use effective behaviour management strategies consistently in line with the school’s policy and procedures
Organise and manage teaching space and resources to help maintain a stimulating and safe learning environment
Observe pupil performance and pass observations on to the class teacher and supervise a class if the teacher is temporarily unavailable
Use ICT skills to advance pupils’ learning and undertake any other relevant duties given by the class teacher

SEMH Teaching Assistant Qualifications/experience:

Experience: A minimum of 3 months’ work/volunteer experience with children or young people in the UK.
Qualifications: Relevant qualifications such as a Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant/childcare.

Desirable Skills for a SEMH Teaching assistant:

Excellent communication skills, patience, and the ability to build positive relationships with pupils, teachers, and parents.
Attributes: A passion for supporting children’s education, a proactive approach, and a willingness to adapt to different school environments.

Safeguarding:

A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, with a willingness to undergo an enhanced DBS check.
