SEN Teaching Assistant:

This large four-form entry primary school in Barking and Dagenham has recently invested in a brand-new, state-of-the-art ARP (Additionally Resourced Provision) unit to support children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). You’ll be joining a supportive and collaborative team who are dedicated to making a real difference in the lives of children. The school has modern facilities, an experienced SENCO, and a structured support system to help both students and staff thrive.

About the Role: EN Teaching Assistant:

As an SEN Teaching Assistant (ARP), you will be working closely with 10 pupils of different ages, all of whom have autism.

Your role will include:

• Providing 1:1 and small group support to students in the ARP unit

• Using a range of communication techniques such as PECS, Makaton, and visual timetables

• Implementing sensory and behaviour management strategies

• Working alongside teachers and therapists to create individualized learning plans

• Encouraging independence and social interaction

What We’re Looking For: EN Teaching Assistant:

• Experience working with children with autism and additional needs

• Knowledge of SEN strategies (PECS, Makaton, sensory integration)

• A caring and patient approach to supporting children

• A proactive and positive mindset, with strong teamwork skills

• A Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (desirable but not essential)
