Description

SEN Teaching Assistant (SEMH)

About the role
Are you a compassionate, resilient, and proactive Teaching Assistant with a passion for supporting children with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs? If so, Teach Now is working with a welcoming and inclusive primary school in the heart of Islington that would love to hear from you.

This vibrant and community-focused school is dedicated to nurturing every child’s potential, regardless of their background or needs. The school places a strong emphasis on inclusion, emotional wellbeing, and restorative practice. With a team of passionate educators, a well-resourced environment, and a leadership team deeply committed to staff development, this is an ideal setting for a teaching assistant looking to grow and make a real impact.

You will support pupils across Key Stage 1 and 2 who require tailored interventions due to SEMH needs. This includes working 1:1 and in small groups, helping pupils regulate emotions, build positive relationships, and re-engage with learning. Your role is pivotal in fostering a safe and structured environment, collaborating with SENCOs, therapists, and families to provide consistent support.

What we’re looking for
• Proven experience working with SEMH needs in a school or alternative provision setting
• A nurturing, firm, and empathetic approach
• Ability to manage challenging behaviours effectively and calmly
• Passion for inclusion and a deep understanding of trauma-informed practice
• Ideally, a Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent), but experience is valued equally

Why this role?
• Join a supportive and skilled SEN team with regular CPD opportunities
• Make a meaningful difference in children’s lives every single day
• Excellent career progression opportunities within SEN support and beyond
• Convenient location with great transport links across London

If you are looking for a fulfilling role where every day brings a new challenge and a new opportunity to change a child’s trajectory, we’d love to hear from you.
