MAIN PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

To participate fully in the daily functioning of the Waters Edge care team in providing a person centred, caring and professional service to all Service Users in a safe and homely environment; working in support of the Managers / Team Leaders in charge and alongside care assistants who they will both support and supervise.

Please note, this role is for NIGHTS.

SUMMARY OF KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The responsibilities linked to this position can be summarised as follows:

Ensuring the highest standards of person centred, caring, safe, responsive and effective care is delivered to all Service Users at all times.

Safe administration of medication

Working as a team player in support of the Managers/Team Leaders and alongside care assistants who they will both support and supervise.

All equipment provided in the care home is used properly and in accordance with operating instructions as well as being stored appropriately when not in use.

Active participation as a team member under the direction of the Managers in charge as well as supervising and guiding others when required is evidenced.

Participation in the undertaking of new starter inductions, as appropriate, in terms of mentoring/buddying new recruits; working through their induction files and demonstrating their new duties, in order to ensure they become fully integrated within the care home and individual teams as well as feeling welcomed and valued.

Appropriate delegation of duties to care assistants as and when required is evidenced.

Acting as a first line supervisor for care assistants; answering general day to day queries and ensuring any conduct or capability issues are referred to the Manager in charge and wherever necessary the Team Leader / Manager.

In relation to night workers specifically; promoting individualised positive sleep patterns for the Service Users and promoting an environment conducive to the promotion of rest, relaxation and sleep.

Any relevant changes to a Service Users condition are properly and fully reported and care plans are completed in readiness for the appropriate shift handover.

The Senior Care Assistant is required to undertake any other reasonable and relevant duties set by the Unit and/or Care Home Manager as arise from time to time.

External Relationships

The Senior Care Assistant will be expected to participate in establishing and maintaining effective relationships with Service Users, relatives and external agencies within the local community. They are required to uphold and promote the values and beliefs of Alpha Health Care.

Physical area of work

The Senior Care Assistant will normally be assigned to Waters Edge Care Home; however as per contract they may be required to work/assist on other units within Alpha Health Care Ltd.

Hours of work

WAKING NIGHTS;

Alpha Healthcare operates 12 hour shifts at our home, 8.00pm – 8.00am over a 7 day period.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Education, Training and Qualifications

NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care

Attendance to statutory and mandatory training sessions, as required

Experience and Job Related Knowledge

Dementia Awareness and knowledge base of complex needs care

Staff supervision experience

Experience of ordering, administering and safe storage of medication

Excellent person-centred care experience

Auditing care paperwork, Incident reporting

Staff allocations and skill mix analysis

Experience of working within and leading a team

Knowledge of health, safety and welfare is essential
