About the Role:
Equitas are seeking a dedicated and resilient Teaching Assistant to join a supportive Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) team. The role involves working closely with students who have been excluded or are at risk of exclusion from mainstream education. You will play a key role in providing tailored support to ensure students can access their learning and develop both academically and personally.
Responsibilities:
* Provide one-to-one and small group support to students, helping them engage with their learning.
* Assist the teacher in delivering lessons tailored to individual needs, fostering an inclusive and positive learning environment.
* Support students with social, emotional, and behavioural needs to develop coping strategies and improve their engagement in education.
* Contribute to behaviour management strategies in line with the school’s policies.
* Build strong relationships with students, staff, and families to encourage progress and collaboration.
* Assist with daily routines, supervision, and interventions as required.
Requirements:
* Previous experience as a Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant, or similar role in an SEN or PRU setting.
* A calm, empathetic, and patient approach to supporting children with SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) needs.
* Excellent communication and behaviour management skills.
* Ability to de-escalate challenging situations effectively.
* A proactive mindset with the ability to adapt to a dynamic environment.
* A relevant qualification (e.g., CACHE Level 2/3) is desirable but not essential.
* Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to obtain one).
