Job Details
Lead the technical engineering management on internally and externally designed projects to successfully achieve company, team and individual objectives relating to; the implementation of best value design, management of opportunities and risk mitigation. Provide technical advice and assistance to other areas of the business and support business development from a technical solution perspective.
Assist the Regional Design & Engineering Manager in the production of technical management fees for internally and externally designed projects. Ensure the accuracy and integrity of technical management costs, values and programme forecasts; seeking opportunities to suggest actions which mitigate risk and maximise profitability.
Support the Principal Technical Manager in the identification, delivery and attendance of CPDs, ensuring that the development of the design/technical team’s competence is maintained. Provide technical advice and assistance to other areas of the business and support business development, actively promoting our technical capability.
Prepare monthly project reports for Senior Stakeholders highlighting progress, risks, opportunities, and resource issues. Advise on commercial progress against plan, any variances from plan and the corrective actions being taken. On external designs, take ownership of the completion of the responsibilities matrix of the Engagement of Consultant Pack, ensuring that scope gaps are mitigated.
Build and maintain mutually beneficial customer, key supplier and internal relationships. Promote the design team and actively seek out new opportunities. Communicate proactively with project stakeholders to improve our collaboration with operational teams.
Conduct regular independent design/technical reviews of both internal and external designs in accordance with the clients technical review process, ensuring that both internal and external designs are technically correct and represent best value and comply with all legal and contracted requirements.
Apply current legislation regarding building regulations, standards, CDM, quality control, commissioning, safety & environmental issues relating to all building services activities.
Actively applies specialist knowledge; providing advice, identifying risk and challenging where necessary. Deals with complex issues relating to legal frameworks, policies and procedures; provides clarity and direction where necessary. Manages the consistent application of legislation and policy, develops an awareness of forthcoming changes and seeks advice from the relevant organisation or body, where there is a need for clarification. Treats all staff members equally and creates a working environment which is free from discrimination and harassment. Maintains detailed understanding of relevant departmental budget and priorities. Demonstrates a good understanding of internal strategy and initiatives; applies models and tools recommended in the business and consults subject matter experts
where required. Establishes and develops a wide internal and external network. Demonstrates effective management and maintenance of third party relationships that are cost effective and provide efficient service where applicable. Prepares for and carries out performance reviews with direct reports following the company process. Maintains/develops skills and team performance to deliver required outcomes. Identifies potential within the team and provides mentoring/coaching to team members to support development plans and career progression.
Ensures the ICT policies are complied with and carries out regular checks to monitor use of equipment and security of data. Uses memberships and access to web resources for regular updates on relevant industry information, best practice and to exchange knowledge with direct reports/peers. Demonstrates sound understanding of software applications relevant to job role and utilises technology
to improve work processes. Uses technology to share information, communicate and collaborate.

EXPERIENCE ESSENTIAL
Extensive experience in MEP design / technical management
Good understanding of design and build and traditional construction contracts
Significant experience of commercial management on design projects
Strong communication skills, ability to influence at all levels
QUALIFICATIONS & PROFESSIONAL MEMBERSHIPS – ESSENTIAL
Eng, MCIBSE, MIET, B. Eng (Hons) or equivalent
