Our client is looking for a Waste Management & Recycling Instructor to oversee the prison’s waste management services and train prisoners in valuable skills for the growing waste and recycling industry. This role plays a critical part in supporting HMP Millsike’s environmental sustainability goals, including increasing recycling rates to 90%, eliminating single-use plastics, and working towards net zero targets.

Internally this role is known as an Industry Instructor.

This role is 38.5 hours working Monday – Thursday 8am -5:30pm and Friday 1pm – 5:30pm

What You’ll Be Doing:

Lead & Train: Manage a team of up to 35 prisoners, providing hands-on training in waste management and recycling to help them gain industry-recognized qualifications, including WAMITAB certifications.
Sustainability & Compliance: Oversee waste collection, sorting, processing, and disposal in compliance with environmental regulations and prison security protocols.
Operational Efficiency: Maintain stock levels, manage equipment, and coordinate with external contractors for waste removal and sustainability projects.
Health & Safety: Ensure safe use of tools, equipment, and plant machinery, complying with all prison security and environmental health standards.
Rehabilitation & Career Development: Support prisoners in developing transferable skills that enhance their employability upon release, contributing to rehabilitation and reintegration into society.What We’re Looking For:

Experience in waste management, recycling, environmental sustainability, or a related industry.
Strong leadership skills with the ability to train, supervise, and motivate a team.
Health & Safety knowledge, including compliance with waste regulations and tool security.
A WAMITAB qualification (or willingness to undertake training).
Vocational training or coaching experience is desirable but not essential.
Previous experience working in a prison, custodial, or secure environment is an advantageIf you’re passionate about sustainability, skilled in waste management, and eager to train others, we want to hear from you!

Security & Screening Requirements

The successful candidate must pass prison clearance, including security vetting for a custodial setting, enhanced background checks covering employment history, criminal records, and right-to-work verification, as well as social media screening in line with security policies.
