Yard Grooms
Location: Royal Agricultural University Equestrian Centre, Cirencester, Glos.
Salary: £21,253.50 – £22,214.40 per annum
Job Type: Permanent, full time/part time
Fosse Hill Farm, the home of the Royal Agricultural University Equestrian Centre, offers a welcoming environment for equestrians covering all disciplines. This commercial facility provides livery services and supports RAU with equestrian education, student enrichment, and academic research. We’re looking for passionate Yard Grooms to join our team and help maintain the smooth running of the yard, contributing to the well-being of the horses and the overall client experience.
As a Yard Groom, you will work closely with the Equestrian Centre Manager and team to oversee the care of all horses onsite, delivering high standards in horse husbandry, technical support, and stable management. Strong communication skills and excellent customer service are key, as you’ll interact regularly with RAU staff, students, clients, and visitors. The role involves maintaining cleanliness, biosecurity, and organisation across the yard, as well as keeping accurate records of stock and procedures. You will also supervise and support casual employees when needed, follow the RAU’s Health and Safety policies, and assist with routine site maintenance and the operation of agricultural machinery.
We are seeking individuals ideally with, or willing to train to, BHS Complete Stage 2 or equivalent, who are committed to ongoing professional development. Excellent horse-handling skills and practical equestrian experience are essential, along with a full UK driving license and a good standard of general education (GCSE or equivalent). You must also be physically fit and able to work across the yard and campus on foot.
We offer a 35-hour working week on a flexible rota, including shared evening lock-up duties and two days off per week. You will receive 30 days of annual leave plus bank holidays. The role also offers a range of staff benefits including a competitive pension scheme, occupational health services, training and development, discounted onsite catering and gym facilities, library services, and a cycle-to-work scheme. There may be an opportunity for the successful candidate to stable their own horse onsite, subject to availability and details can be discussed at interview.
If you’re passionate about equestrian care, dedicated to high standards, and eager to grow in a supportive environment, we’d love to hear from you.
